A team captain and three-year starter at Illinois, Luke finished his career ranked first in program history in both passer rating and completion percentage, and second all-time in quarterback wins and touchdown passes. He led the Illini to a 9–4 season in 2025 with 3,007 yards and 22 touchdowns against just five interceptions, capping the year as Music City Bowl MVP in a win over No. 23 Tennessee, and engineered seven game-winning drives in the final minute or overtime across his career — the most in the nation over that span. Altmyer signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent in May 2026.
