Ty Simpson: 'I'm glad I failed' to become Alabama's starting quarterback in 2023

In Ty Simpson's three seasons at Alabama, the closest he has come to the starting quarterback job was during September 2023.

A three-way competition with Jalen Milroe and Tyler Buchner stretched deep into fall camp, and after Milroe was benched following a two-interception game against Texas, Simpson had his chance to play when Tyler Buchner was benched at South Florida.

Simpson completed five of nine passes for 73 yards but was sacked five times in a sloppy, 17-3 win in Tampa. The next week, Nick Saban reappointed Milroe as Alabama'a starting quarterback against Ole Miss and Milroe has held the job since.
